OpenHouse March 21

Hello Friends,

What a busy month its been! We’ve said ‘goodbye’ to several old friends – but we’ll keep in touch via e-mail and our website - and we’ve said ‘hello’ to ten new friends to OPEN-HOUSE; we know of several more who will be arriving soon. Isn’t it marvellous being able to make friends from around the world!

OPEN-HOUSE meets on Sunday, 21st March from 2 pm - 4 pm, at Emmanuel Church Centre, 43 Forest Road, and your hosts will be Clive Hilton and Helen Crowhurst. Our good friends Kim and Mary Goh are also planning to join us - you must come and meet them! OPEN-HOUSE is especially for overseas visitors to L'boro – so bring a friend with you.

Added a fresh website to the OPEN-HOUSE collection, with lots of pictures, links and news to keep you informed - http://openhouselboro.blog104.fc2.com! You can still access the mirror link at http://openhouselboro.blogspot.com/, but it is not accessible in some parts of the world. Look at the flags to see where we are being accessed from – P.R. China, U.S.A., Russia, Ireland, Japan, Finland, India ………….. and the UK.

May you all know God’s blessing,
Clive

English Grammar
Analogy / Metaphor / Simile

All three terms are about comparison or similarity, where something is compared to something else so as to explain or develop understanding of the original.

A simile is a comparison between two things and always uses the words ‘as’ or ‘like’. For example; ‘my love is like a red, red rose’.

A metaphor makes the comparison between two things directly. For example; ‘my love is a red, red rose’.

Similies and metaphors are poetic devices used in literature for richness of understanding and effect.

An analogy is a comparison used to explain a similarity of features between two things. For example; ‘…. such as the working of the heart and the working of a pump’.
